About Reef Lodge

outdoors at Reef Lodge
Reef Lodge has everything you need for a great stay in Townsville. We are within easy walking distance of most attractions including beach, shopping, aquarium, diving and great walks! We are only a 10 minute walk from the Transit Centre bus terminal and a 2 minute walk from the Magnetic Island ferry terminal. The Strand and beach is minutes away. There is only a 2 minute walk to the city's beautiful Flinders Mall for all your shopping needs and if you are into the latest movies, a Birch Carroll & Coyle picture theatre is just another 2 minutes away.

We have no hidden costs and you get what you pay for. We don’t offer gimmicks, like free deals, meals or even free pick-ups to try and get you to stay. We offer budget accommodation in our highly featured hostel, tailored to suit the traveller or backpacker who is looking for a comfortable, affordable and safe place to stay.

seating area
We have a B.B.Q. area with lockers and T.V. as well as a games room with a pool table and gym equipment. There is also a second T.V. area out the back of the kitchen, which has all you need to cook. All we ask is that you please clean up and don't be like the "Pig fairies" who drop in every now and then. Did I mention the kitchen? Here is another picture of "the kitchen"

chillout in a hammock
There are also plenty of places to sit, like the "smokers den" or you can relax in one of our hammocks (shown in the picture on the right).

Here is a picture of our motel room and this is a picture of one of our double rooms. These have a 1 double bed in them and the twin rooms are much the same with 2 single beds in them. We understand that most of our travelers are looking for a fairly quiet, laid back environment so we ask that people settle down after 10-30pm and take the party to the clubs. This way people can get some rest as many of the backpackers staying here have jobs also if you are after work most backpackers have no trouble finding some.

Flinders Street at night
If you do love the night life you will be happy to know this starts just 20 metres from our front door. Tonwnsville's Casino and the majority of Townsville's best clubs and pubs are also within a 5 minute stagger in most directions. So you can easily find your way back at the end of the night!

aquarium Reef HQ
Across the road you'll run into the Museum of Tropical Queensland, the Imax Theatre and the aquarium at Reef HQ.

A 2 minute walk in the opposite direction will take you to the glorious beach and ocean at our award winning "The Strand", which is approximately 2.4 kilometres long and features many small cafes, bars, clubs and restaurants where you can have a drink or a meal by the sea.

rock pool
There is a Rock Pool (salt water from the ocean) at the far end of The Strand and is definitely worth a swim after the walk. If you don't want to get salty then you can cool off in the fresh water Kokoda Olympic Swimming Pool at the beginning of the The Strand or at the free Water Park , which is designed for children and those of us who have forgotten to grow up, like me.

Did I tell you that you can kill yourself in Townsville by walking up our famous Castle Hill in the centre of Townsville? There is a large hill which takes about 45 minutes to walk to the top. The only time I walked up the hill I felt I was going to have myself a good old fashioned myocardial infarction and drop dead! There is an upside, after you realize you're not going to die and it was only a near death experience, that it has the greatest panoramic views of the whole city. Particularly good at sunset!!
